The Houston Chronicle: 9 art installations planned for Midtown after Houston wins prestigious grant for homeless project

Houston is one of eight cities to win as much as a $1 million public art grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies for a project that addresses an urgent civic issue. The project, dubbed “HueMan: Shelter,” addresses and hopes to disrupt perceptions of homelessness. It will develop nine installations in Midtown in a collaboration between professional artists and homeless people. The proposal includes art objects at five Metro bus shelters, two large murals and two multi-media sculptures to be installed in underpasses.
